1 These are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.
2 The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. 3 The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 From these the coastland peoples spread in their lands, each with his own language, by their clans, in their nations.
Based on the detailed records from the Bible, and coupling together the genealogies of documented history along with modern genealogical forensics, we can gather a lot about Japheth and his lineage.
From Japheth we have the following sons: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech and Tiras. Lets now look into each of these sons and their descendants.
Gomer is a name which over time has been transliterated to the modern name Germany. Gomer settled in what we now know as Central Europe. They traveled west to the border of France & Spain, then across the English channel to the British Isles. Ashkenaz, one of Gomer’s sons, settled in what we now call Eastern Europe. In fact, many of the Jews from the diaspora (spread around the world away from the Holy Land) called and still call themselves Ashkenazi Jews. Some of these people also went west as well and crossed the English channel and they are known as the Saxons. Another of Gomer’s sons was Riphath who settled in modern day Switzerland. In their language “eu” meant good, and since Riphath was a good man, much like the people of Switzerland today, they called him “EuRiphath”, or as we now call the entire land around Switzerland today, Europe. Yet another son of Gomer was Togarmah who settled in Turkey, and his lineage comes into play in end time prophecy.
Japheth’s second son, Magog settled in the Caucasus mountains in southern Russia. His lineage became the Mongols, and yes, even led to Genghis Khan. They became the main body of the Russian peoples. And they stand out prominently in end time prophecy.
Madai was Japheth’s third son. He went East/Southeast to India. To this day there is a Founder’s celebration there called Madai and they got the name for the famous Indian city Madras from his name. Some of this line went to ancient Persia or as we know it, Iran. This is one of the many reasons why the Iranians and the Iraqis have so many differences between them.
Japheth’s descendants later deified him (forgetting to “dwell in the tents of Shem” and watching for the coming Messiah). They pronounced his name Japheter, or King Japheth, and that is where the name Jupiter derives. Jupiter in ancient astronomy was known as the King Star (Planet).
The fourth son of Japheth was Javan. Javan settled in the region of Italy and France. His name became so famous in the region that it earned many variances, such as Javani, then later Giovanni. Then it went on to John, Ivan, Shawn, Jean, Joan, etc… Javan basically became the start of the Western civilization and culture, and later they came to worship him as well, they called him “Jove” which is where we get the phrase “By Jove!” His first son was Elishah, which actually has a hard breath “H” sound before the “E”. So we pronounce it Helishah, and his descendants settled the Greece region and created the Hellenic culture. Tarshish moved to Spain/Portugal and created the Iberian peoples. Kittim settled in Cyprus, and he comes into play in end time prophecy. Rodanim and his descendants settled in the Aegean Sea on some islands where we know of an ancient wonder of the world there, the Colossus of Rhodes.
Tubal was the fifth son of Japheth and they settled in Siberia, there is a city named Tobalski there today.
Meschech was Japheth’s sixth son and he settled in the area of western Russia, where later his name is memorialized in the naming of the capital city, Moscow.
The seventh son of Japheth was Tiras. He moved to Scandinavia, the future Danish, Swedes, Vikings, etc…
So we can clearly see from the Bible and historical texts that Japheth was the one whose offspring settled Europe, Russia, India and Persia.
