Goodness versus Godliness

From the book Tell the Truth by Will Metzger

“We can become too passive and just enjoy God. We can presume on God’s grace and use our secure salvation perversely. Grace exposes nominal Christians. The worst form of badness is human goodness, which attempts to substitute itself for Christ’s righteousness. Faith does not save; its object, Christ, does.”

We all seem to very much try and proclaim ourselves as do-gooders.  I am the chief of this tribe in many ways.  But, we must also realize the distinct difference between human goodness and Godly perfection.  They are NOT equal.  They are NOT close to the same.

Romans 3:23 and 6:23 tell us so…but beyond using the scriptures, your own conscience tells you its true as well.  But instead of bowing to and submitting the almighty God, you seek to ignore His presence or at least minimize it in order to maintain your autonomy and avoid coming face to face with your Creator.

Don’t let your goodness be your means to salvation, you will run out of gas before you finish that race.  Please seek the face of God, confess your sin, turn to His spirit in you and live the life He has planned for you!
